Mr. Pranai Phornprapha, President of Siam Estate & Co Ltd. under Siam Motors Group, revealed that: “from the success and experience of creating and operating the multiple Siam Country Club golf courses in the past, the group had picked up quite a positive reputation both locally and globally. The Old Course, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year was renovated in 2006 and re-opened in 2007 with international course architect Lee Schmidt from Schmidt-Curley Design Inc. emphasizing on the land’s existing forestry area and natural beauty. In 2008, the group opened its second course; the 27-holes “Siam Country Club Plantation” with the same group of international world-renowned course architect Schmidt-Curley Design Inc., exploring a different hilly style course with breath-taking views surrounding the land’s local plantations of Sugar Cane, Tapioca and Pineapple. Both courses have proudly hosted one of the world’s top woman professional competitions, the HONDA LPGA THAILAND for the last 13 years from 2007 to 2021. The courses and the Siam Country Club name itself received tremendous international reputation and excitement within the local golf industry over the years with the broadcast exposure reaching over 800 million households in 200 countries around the world. In 2014, the expansion continued with the 18-hole “Siam Country Club Waterside” formed with ‘IMG Golf Course Design’. With the aim to differentiate, the course took a more approachable direction to please higher handicap golfers, built around two beautiful reservoirs. In 2020, the 18-hole “Siam Country Club Rolling Hills” opened to the public with Schmidt-Curley Design Inc. wanting to emphasize on the natural beauty of the existing hilly landscape.
All courses are distinctively different but matching in the highest conditions with the mission not only to be amongst the leading golf courses of the world but make sure to lift Thailand’s status as a golf destination.
Now as 2022 approaches, Siam Country Club is ready to open its fifth golf course, “Siam Country Club Bangkok”, in the vicinity of the capital, near Suvarnabhumi Airport to accommodate both loyal local fans and international golfers. The course is located on Bangna-Trad (KM 22) road on an area of 519 rai, with a total budget of 3,683 million baht (divided into a land plot of 2,595 million baht and a construction budget of 1,088 million baht). The course was designed by Toby Cobb – Design Associate, one of The Coore & Crenshaw golf course designers, who had designed several golf courses in the ‘Top 100 Golf Courses of the World’ by Golf Digest, including The Pinehurst No.2 Restoration, North Carolina (No.29), Friar’s Head Golf Club, NY (No.16), and Old Sandwich Golf Club, Massachusetts (No.58). The construction of the course was taken care of by Golf East Co., Ltd. with the clubhouse designed by The Office of Bangkok Architects Co., Ltd. and constructed by SMCC (Thailand) Co., Ltd.
While aligning its’ top world-class conditions with the existing Siam Country Club courses’, designer Toby Cobb wanted to make the new Bangkok landmark distinctively unique. The golf course plays a lot with the contour, making it comparable to a links-style course. Unique small pot bunkers, smooth big greens and big borderless fairways are features to uplift the golf experiences. The usage of Sena Zoysia grass for the fairways and roughs will be Thailand’s first. This is to create a distinctive experience as the grass’ tight root characteristics enables the ball to bounce differently. The core mission for “Siam Country Club Bangkok” is to create unique experiences for golfers to enjoy.
