Siam Motors Group Driving new businesses to promote Thai agriculture by unmanned helicopter service to spray agricultural chemicals
Siam Motors Group joint with major Thai and Japanese business conglomerate to opened a joint venture company to provide chemical spraying services in agricultural fields by unmanned helicopters. Elevate farming activities in Thailand. This is the first company in Thailand to receive an official business license with unmanned aerial vehicle to provide service using unmanned aerial vehicle properly from Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand and Ministry of Transport.
Mr. Montree Denpairojsak, Managing Director of Siam Yamaha Motor Robotics Co., Ltd. revealed that Siam Motors Group is moving forward with new business aiming to develop the agricultural sector of Thailand to the next level by launching a service for spraying chemicals in agricultural fields by unmanned helicopter. Which is a joint venture with large business groups in Thailand And Japan under the name of Siam Yamaha Motor Robotics Co., Ltd., with a shareholding portion of Siam Motors Parts Co., Ltd. holds 41% of the shares, Thai Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. holds 34%, Mitsui & Company Co., Ltd holds 15% and Mr. Chartsiri Sophonpanich holds 10% The new company opened up to provide service for chemical spraying in agriculture in Thailand by using an unmanned helicopter from Yamaha which had been developed and widely used in Japan for more than 30 years with more than 3,000 units.
The use of unmanned helicopters in agriculture can help farmers to work much faster than traditional methods because unmanned helicopters can spray chemicals faster. The unmanned helicopter can spray chemicals on an area of 1 rai within 1 minute which will help farmers to work 7-10 times faster from traditional working method and can work continuously all day as our unmanned helicopter uses a 400CC gasoline engine which has a dedicated cooling design for continuous day-to-day operation in hot climates. It also has access to areas that were previously unable to work to help farmers increase the yield of their plants For example, in sugarcane fields older than 5 months, farmers were originally unable to work to spray fertilizers or hormones to accelerate growth to help increase quality and add weight to sugarcane, or even spraying ripener to help increase the sugar content in sugarcane which is widely used in foreign countries but in Thailand it is not yet available due to the lack of work tools that will allow farmers to spray ripener on their own fields as this ripener must be sprayed at the age of 9-10 months old which the height of sugarcane are higher than 4 meters making it difficult or impossible for farmer to work with traditional method and limited application because the sugarcane must be harvest no more than 45 days after spraying to get the most effective amount of sugar, ”said Montree.
Mr. Piyurach Subharat, General Manager / Chief Operating Officer [COO] added that apart from help easing the work in agriculture field for farmers, it also helps farmers to work in agriculture safely. With the unmanned aerial vehicles, farmers will be completely avoided contact with chemicals. The company has been tested in conjunction with the Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to assure that the use of unmanned helicopters is safe. We have proven that with the use of unmanned helicopters, Both the farmer and the pilot who operate an unmanned helicopter has no single exposure to chemicals on the body while the tested in conjunction with the traditional method of working, farmers are exposed to chemicals almost everywhere on their bodies, so we can be confident that by using unmanned helicopters, farmers are safer working with chemicals than ever before.
The operation of an unmanned helicopter is developed and designed specially f or use in agriculture. The nozzle used in the unmanned aerial vehicle is designed to work in conjunction with the wind under the propeller blades of an unmanned helicopter to help push the chemical liquid into the plant efficiently and the quantity of the chemical solution to the plants is calculated and controlled precisely by a computer box inside the engine for most effective control amount of chemical onto the plants.
Spraying chemical by unmanned helicopters uses a very small amount of water, just 1.28 liters per rai, which is 40-60 times less than the current practice which will help to reduce the needs for water consumption in the country but the farmer can still maintain the quality of the chemicals as before.
Our company is the first company in Thailand who received an official license to do business in the air using unmanned aerial vehicles from the Department of Civil Aviation and the Ministry of Transport. In applying for a license to do business in the air with the Department of Civil Aviation, there are three main areas of permission:
- Permission for an aircraft
- Permission for pilot
- Permission to operate business in the air
To provide agricultural chemical spraying services in Thailand by using an unmanned helicopter focusing on serving large plots of agriculture to be in line with the government policy to promoting Thai farmers to join together to make each step of work more efficient. In the beginning, Siam Yamaha Motor Robotics Co., Ltd. focuses on spraying chemicals in sugarcane and corn cultivation which is the main economic crop of Thailand and in most cases it is cultivated in the form of large farms, where the use of unmanned helicopters will help improves work efficiency, shorten the time of spraying chemicals and help to increase the safety of the farmers’ work more, “said Piyurach finally.
